Little Rouge River Widening
Brown & Co. was retained by Hwy 407 ETR to develop a solution and prepare contract documents to correct observed failure of the lateral structure shear blocks, bearing seating and deterioration at the abutments
Brown & Co. was able to analyze the force on the existing shear blocks based on a detailed evaluation of the sequential widening of the structure clearly indicating the overstress of the existing block and design appropriate replacement shear blocks and guide bearings. The existing bearings were each inspected for deterioration and bedding, and analyzed using current research on elastomeric bearing capacity, minimizing the extent of the bearing support modifications. Additional work was undertaken to mitigate cracking and other deterioration at the abutments
